SUMMER COURSE 2025: we offer three workshops as a summer course. This workshop is part two of the course. You can take one or join all three!
Description
Under the guidance of an experienced sculptor and moldmaker you will construct a mold of one portrait or one figure made in a Figura workshop. The mold is suitable for making plaster casts, as well as resin copies and can also be used for bronze work in a foundry.
Program
On the first day we start with explaining general information regarding the course and moldmaking process. Two layers of silicone will be added to the sculpture. A third layer plus walls and design of the undercut keys on Tuesday. On Wednesday the mothermold is being made: first the plaster shell and then walls. On Thursday application of the supports, clay recycling and opening. Friday is dedicated to cleaning and demonstration of ‘how to make a plaster cast’.
Time table
Monday - Friday (9:00 - 18:00 h)*
* Keep in mind that the work is demanding. You may have to make some extra hours to get ready for the next day. Keep your calendar empty during mold making days!
Instructor
Sydnie Nislow is an artist and technical specialist based in Amsterdam. After receiving a degree in furniture design, she has been working as a sculptor and furniture designer. Creating form is her sacred practice. During her tech fellowship at the Rijksacademie (2023) she researched material supply chains, methods of sustainable thinking, and accessible recycling of material waste in the Construction workshops. Sydnie now works between the fields of sculpture, mold-making, construction and material research. You can often find Sydnie laying in the grass in a park near you.
